MUSKEGON, MI – Sometimes, you just have to follow your dreams and for one Muskegon County Deputy, that calling was to become a professional pilot. On Sunday, Deputy Jake Ashker starts his journey to fulfill a lifetime goal. His last shift was Sunday as he heads off to pursue a career as a professional pilot.
After graduating from West Shore Community College, Deputy Ashker had initially worked with the Village of Hesperia and then the Oceana, Newaygo and Lake Counties. Jake joined the Sheriff’s Office in 2002. While working with the Sheriff’s Office Jake was assigned to Patrol, Airport Security, Court Services, Wastewater Property District, and served as the Fruitland Township (PINS) Deputy for 14 years.
Jake has enrolled at Bowling Green University, where his wife works as an Associate Professor at Bowling Green University. Jake states that he is looking forward to living full-time under the same roof with his wife and two sons and also saying goodbye to the 5-hour weekly commute.
“I will dearly miss the people of Muskegon County as I have many friends in the community after all these great years!,” he said.
