Bowie 18-Year-Old Charged in Armed Carjacking, Linked to Earlier Shooting in Prince George’s County

BOWIE, Md. — An 18-year-old suspect now faces multiple felony charges after Prince George’s County police say he carried out an armed carjacking and later led officers on a chase that ended in a crash and arrest.

The Prince George’s County Police Department identified the suspect as Kairee Hicks of Bowie, charging him in connection with a Thursday afternoon carjacking in the unincorporated section of the city.

Carjacking escalates into pursuit and arrest

Officers responded around 12:40 p.m. on April 16 to the 1900 block of Grand Way Boulevard after an adult woman reported her vehicle had just been taken at gunpoint, according to the Prince George’s County Police Department.

Investigators say the suspect displayed a handgun during the encounter before fleeing in the victim’s 2014 Lexus sedan. The woman was not physically injured.

Detectives located the stolen vehicle the following day in the Lanham area. When officers attempted a traffic stop, police say Hicks fled, triggering a brief pursuit that ended when the vehicle crashed.

He then ran from the scene but was quickly captured following what police described as a coordinated search involving multiple officers.

Weapon recovered, evidence ties suspect to crime

During the arrest, officers recovered a loaded handgun with an obliterated serial number, a detail that adds to the severity of the charges.

Police say additional evidence collected during the investigation links Hicks directly to the carjacking.

He now faces a series of charges, including armed carjacking, carjacking, use of a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence, illegal possession of a handgun, and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, along with other related offenses.
