TOMS RIVER-As coronavirus cases in Toms River continue to grow each day, Toms River Mayor Maurice “Mo” Hill has announced he is closing the boardwalk in Ortley Beach. This comes days after Hill closed all of the township’s public buildings and playgrounds.

“This move was a difficult decision but is best for the health and safety of all our citizens, “Mayor Maurice Hill said. “Effective immediately, the boardwalk and beach in Ortley Beach is closed to the public.”

Parks remain open but the playground and bathrooms are closed. Residents who are using the open spaces in our parks should continue to follow CDC social distancing guidelines.

“While it is safe to go for a walk, we encourage residents to remain six feet apart,” Mayor Hill added. “Don’t go out in public unnecessarily. Wash your hands and disinfect surfaces frequently. Stay home, especially if you feel sick and even if you have mild symptoms.”
