Officers with the Newport News Police Department responded to a call around 3:12 p.m. on April 18 regarding a shooting on the 800 block of 35th Street. Upon arrival, they found Barney Kittles Jr. suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. Kittles was rushed to a local medical facility but was pronounced dead at 4:39 p.m.
