ST. MARY’S COUNTY, MD — A fatal wrong turn at a Maryland intersection ended in heartbreak Thursday evening when a two-vehicle crash killed one driver and left an elderly couple hospitalized with serious injuries.
The deadly collision unfolded just before 6 p.m. at the crossroads of Maryland Route 235 and Mt. Zion Church Road. Investigators said a GMC Canyon, driven by 92-year-old Casper Bradbury Sr., with 90-year-old Norma Bradbury in the passenger seat, was making a left turn onto Mt. Zion Church Road but failed to yield to oncoming traffic.
That’s when a GMC Envoy, barreling down Route 235, slammed into the passenger side of the Canyon — a devastating hit that claimed the life of the Envoy’s driver, 59-year-old Jean Gagnon, who died at the scene.

The Bradburys were rushed to the hospital by Maryland State Police Aviation Command with injuries sustained in the violent impact. Officials have not yet released updates on their conditions.
Road closures lasted roughly three hours Thursday night as state troopers and crash reconstruction teams worked the scene, piecing together what led to the deadly encounter.
The St. Mary’s County State’s Attorney’s Office will review the case to determine if charges will be filed once the Maryland State Police Crash Team wraps up its investigation.
