WASHINGTON, D.C. — A 43-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly attacking a woman at a bus stop in the Shaw neighborhood early Tuesday morning in an attempt to rob her, authorities said.

The incident occurred around 6:51 a.m. in the 1400 block of 7th Street, Northwest. According to investigators, the suspect approached the woman while she was waiting at the bus stop and assaulted her in an effort to take her belongings.

The woman was able to push the suspect away, and he fled the scene before officers arrived.

Responding officers canvassed the area shortly after the report and successfully located the suspect. He was taken into custody without incident, police confirmed.

Suspect faces robbery-related charge

Following the investigation, the suspect was identified as Alonzo Crockett, 43, who has no fixed address. Crockett has been charged with Assault with Intent to Commit Robbery.

Authorities have not reported any injuries to the victim as a result of the assault. No further details regarding the suspect’s background or prior incidents were released.

The case remains under investigation.
