CHARLES COUNTY, Md. — A Virginia locksmith scored a $30,734 Racetrax prize at a dual-state restaurant on April 6, joining the Maryland Lottery’s Winner’s Circle after betting on a trio of lucky horses.

The Spotsylvania man placed a Trifecta wager at Tim’s II at Fairview, a restaurant uniquely positioned on the Potomac River with parts in both Virginia and Maryland, allowing it to sell Maryland Lottery games. Accompanied by his wife, the player visited the venue as part of a regular Sunday ritual centered on food and Racetrax, his favorite lottery game.

“I watch the numbers and I felt like they were due to come out,” the winner said after selecting horses 10, 11 and 12 for seven consecutive races. His win came during the second race on the ticket.

As the game played out on-screen, the couple was momentarily distracted by Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin scoring his record-breaking 895th goal. Amid the celebration, they missed the winning race but caught the result shortly after.

“When I turned back to the races and saw the recap with my numbers, I couldn’t stop shaking,” the man said. “I knew it was over $30,000.”

Restaurant celebration follows win

The couple was congratulated by the restaurant’s owner and other patrons before securing the ticket in a home safe. The winner, who declined to be named publicly, stated that he plans to place the winnings into savings.

Tim’s II at Fairview, located at 5411 Pavilion Drive, will receive a $307.34 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling a winning Racetrax ticket over $10,000. The bonus equals 1% of the prize amount.
