BRIDGEVILLE, DE — Delaware State Police are investigating a stabbing that seriously injured a 41-year-old man on Coverdale Road Wednesday night, authorities said.

Troopers were dispatched to Coverdale Road near Camelia Lane at approximately 8:14 p.m. following reports of a stabbing. Upon arrival, they found the male victim suffering from a stab wound. He was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where he is being treated for serious injuries.
According to state police, the suspect fled the area and remains unidentified. No description of the assailant was released as of Thursday.

Detectives from Delaware State Police Troop 4 Criminal Investigations Unit have taken over the case. Authorities said the investigation is in its early stages and that leads are being pursued.
