LANCASTER, Pa. — A 51-year-old Lancaster man was sentenced to 10 to 20 years in state prison after pleading guilty to shooting his ex-girlfriend multiple times in a 2024 domestic incident that nearly killed her.

Dervin Mateo-Berrios entered a guilty plea on April 3 to charges of criminal attempt of first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault. Lancaster County Judge Dennis Reinaker handed down the sentence, which also includes over $147,500 in restitution to the victim.
The shooting took place on June 27, 2024, at Mateo-Berrios’ home in the 600 block of Ocean Avenue. Police said the woman, his ex-girlfriend, was shot in the kitchen of the residence following an argument.
Victim survived critical injuries
Despite being struck in the stomach, pelvis, and arm, the victim survived. She later told police that Mateo-Berrios opened fire during a confrontation in the home.
Shortly after the shooting, police located Mateo-Berrios hiding behind a trashcan in the 600 block of Third Street. Officers noted that he was intoxicated at the time of arrest.
No statement from defendant
Mateo-Berrios declined to speak before sentencing. However, his attorney said he was “incredibly sorry” and “very thankful” the woman survived.
Assistant District Attorney Christopher Miller prosecuted the case.
