PHILADELPHIA, PA — A 54-year-old man died early Wednesday after suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the thigh inside a West Philadelphia residence, police said.

Authorities responded to the scene at approximately 8:19 a.m. at a home on the 6100 block of Walton Avenue, where they found the man with a gunshot wound to his left thigh.
Police transported the victim to Penn-Presbyterian Medical Center. He was pronounced dead at 5:52 a.m., according to investigators. His identity has not been released pending family notification.
A firearm was recovered at the scene. No one else was reported injured, and no foul play is suspected at this time.
“The scene was secured, and a firearm was recovered,” police said in a statement.
The incident is under investigation by Southwest Detectives. Authorities have not released further details about what led to the shooting.
