WASHINGTON, DC — A 37-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting that claimed the life of another man in Southeast D.C. earlier this month, police announced Monday.
The incident took place on Thursday, March 13, around 9:26 p.m. Sixth District officers were called to an establishment in the 5000 block of Benning Road, Southeast, for reports of a shooting. Inside, they found an adult male with gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The victim was identified as 33-year-old Darius Young, of Southeast, D.C. Detectives later determined the shooting occurred outdoors in the 5000 block of H Street, Southeast, before the victim entered the nearby establishment.
Following an investigation, members of the Capitol Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Cornell Day, 37, of Southeast, D.C., on Monday. He has been charged with First Degree Murder while Armed (Premeditated) under a DC Superior Court warrant.
The investigation remains ongoing.
