Armed carjacking suspects, ages 12 to 16, arrested in D.C. and Maryland
Quick Arrest Made in Northwest D.C. Robbery Attempt WASHINGTON, DC - Following a Northwest robbery attempt, D.C. Metro Police Department’s Third District detectives have swiftly apprehended a suspect. The incident occurred today around 2:53 PM, in the 1200 block of W Street, Northwest. The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Lenare Leath, Jr. of Northwest D.C., allegedly brandished a knife and pushed the victim to the ground in an attempt to steal their property. After a struggle, the suspect fled empty-handed but was quickly caught by responding officers. The victim sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital. WASHINGTON, D.C. Four juveniles have been arrested in connection with an armed carjacking that took place in Northeast D.C. late last year, authorities announced Wednesday.

On December 22, at approximately 8:58 p.m., officers responded to the 5800 block of Dix Street NE for a reported carjacking. The suspects allegedly approached the victim as she was parking, with one displaying a handgun and demanding she exit the vehicle. The suspects then fled in the victim’s car, which was later recovered.

Following an investigation, detectives obtained custody orders for four juveniles:

  • A 15-year-old male from Southeast D.C., arrested on March 14 for armed carjacking.
  • A 12-year-old male from Glenarden, MD, arrested on March 18 for armed carjacking.
  • A 16-year-old male from College Park, MD, arrested on March 19 for armed carjacking.
  • A 14-year-old female from Landover, MD, arrested on March 19 for unauthorized use of a vehicle.

The case remains under investigation.
