WILMINGTON, Del. — A New Castle man was arrested Friday afternoon after a shoplifting incident at a Royal Farms escalated into a robbery involving a box cutter, Delaware State Police said.
Troopers responded to the store at 1031 South Market Street at approximately 12:07 p.m. on March 14. Their investigation determined that Luis Andino, 26, had taken a fountain drink and concealed merchandise before attempting to leave without paying.
A store employee confronted Andino, who briefly left but then returned with a box cutter and engaged in a verbal altercation. During the dispute, Andino threw the drink at the employee and attempted to leave but then turned back and confronted the worker again with the weapon. A physical struggle ensued before troopers arrived and took Andino into custody without incident.
The employee was not injured, and no other customers were harmed.
Andino was transported to Troop 2, where he was charged, arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2, and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $25,000 cash bond.
