SHREWSBURY, Pa. — School officials and police investigated a reported threat at Shrewsbury Elementary School, determining that it stemmed from a verbal altercation between students, the Southern York County School District said Thursday.
According to a statement from Superintendent Dr. Robert Bryson, the district was alerted to allegations that a student had made threatening statements toward two other students. The district worked with the Southern Regional Police Department to investigate the incident and issue appropriate consequences.
“The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our top priority, and we want to assure you that we take all allegations of threats very seriously,” the district said in its statement. Officials confirmed that the situation was limited to a verbal dispute and posed no ongoing danger.
The district’s threat assessment team, which includes school administrators, a resource officer, a psychologist, and a counselor, reviewed the matter and took steps to ensure student safety. Authorities said they will continue to monitor the situation and investigate any new information.
While officials determined there is no current threat to the school, police will maintain an increased presence at Shrewsbury Elementary as a precaution.
The district acknowledged that incidents like this can cause concern and assured parents that steps are being taken to maintain a safe learning environment.
Authorities emphasize that the incident has been addressed, and additional police presence is being provided out of caution.
