YONKERS, N.Y. — A Mount Vernon man has been charged with assault and weapon possession after allegedly shooting another man following an argument on a bus, Yonkers police said.

At approximately 11:30 a.m. Monday, officers responded to a report of a shooting outside 1187 Yonkers Avenue. Upon arrival, they found a male victim with a gunshot wound to his arm. Officers provided medical aid before transporting him to a local hospital, where he was listed in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

Patrol officers canvassed the area and located a suspect on Bronx River Road. He was taken into custody without incident, and a Glock 9mm handgun was recovered at the scene.

Investigators determined that the suspect and victim had been involved in a verbal altercation while riding a Bee-Line bus. The dispute continued after they exited on Yonkers Avenue, escalating until the suspect allegedly fired one shot, striking the victim, before fleeing on foot.

The suspect, identified as Levar Dimmie, 48, of Mount Vernon, is charged with first-degree assault and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. The victim was identified as Daniel Pena, 36, of Yonkers.

Yonkers Police Commissioner Chris Sapienza praised officers for their response. “I commend the swift and professional actions of our patrol officers in apprehending this suspect and securing the scene,” he said.

Dimmie is expected to be arraigned Tuesday in Yonkers City Court. The case is being prosecuted by the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office.
