WASHINGTON, DC — A man accused of attempting to steal a cash register at gunpoint was arrested Sunday evening in Southeast Washington, along with a woman found carrying stolen merchandise.
Officers responded around 6:02 p.m. to a business in the 2900 block of Minnesota Avenue, SE, where the suspect allegedly entered the store, displayed a handgun, and tried unsuccessfully to steal the cash register. He then grabbed merchandise and fled the scene.
A lookout was issued, and later that evening, a detective patrolling the area spotted the suspect nearby. With assistance from Sixth District officers, 41-year-old Robert Jameson was taken into custody without incident and charged with robbery while armed. A search revealed narcotics in his possession, leading to an additional felony drug charge.
A woman accompanying Jameson, 38-year-old Velitha Williams, was also detained after officers discovered she had stolen merchandise from the robbery and an outstanding arrest warrant. She was charged with receiving stolen property and fugitive from justice.
