Abingdon, MD – The Harford County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of 25-year-old Lebogang-Ram Motshabi in connection with a recent hit and run accident in Abingdon. Motshabi faces several charges related to the incident.
On Monday, a passerby found a severely injured woman lying in a ditch on S. Tollgate Road. Deputies provided emergency care, and the victim was transported to a trauma center by a Maryland State Police helicopter.
Investigators determined the victim had been struck by a vehicle. The HCSO Traffic Unit Crash Team and other divisions gathered evidence and identified the vehicle involved. A damaged vehicle was discovered on Tuesday, leading to Motshabi’s identification as the driver.
Motshabi was taken into custody for failing to remain at the accident scene, not reporting to police, and driving without a license or insurance. He was released on $5,000 bail. The victim, Amaya Marie Martise, remains hospitalized with serious injuries. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact their special operations division.
