Calvert County issues animal safety alert ahead of severe cold

PRINCE FREDERICK, MD — The Calvert County Department of Public Safety has issued an animal safety alert for Tuesday and Wednesday as severe cold temperatures are expected in the area.

The alert requires pet owners and livestock caretakers to take precautions to protect animals from extreme weather conditions. Dogs and cats should be brought indoors or provided with a heated shelter that shields them from prevailing winds. Livestock must have access to weather protection and additional food to compensate for increased calorie loss.

Animals kept outside must be monitored for signs of distress, and all animals must have access to clean, unfrozen water at all times.
