MINEOLA, N.Y. — A Roslyn man was sentenced Thursday to up to 25 years in prison for a wrong-way crash in Jericho that killed 14-year-olds Ethan Falkowitz and Drew Hassenbein and injured two other teenagers, Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly announced.

Amandeep Singh, 36, pleaded guilty in January to aggravated vehicular homicide, manslaughter, assault, and other charges stemming from the May 3, 2023, crash. Prosecutors said Singh was intoxicated and high on cocaine when he drove a Dodge Ram TRX 95 mph, crossed into oncoming traffic, and struck a car carrying the four teens.

An event data recorder showed Singh was traveling 75 mph in a 40 mph zone at the moment of impact. Falkowitz and Hassenbein, who were seated on the right side of the Alfa Romeo, were killed instantly. The two other teen passengers suffered injuries, including a concussion and glass fragments in the eye.

Singh fled the crash scene and was found hiding near a dumpster before being arrested. A blood test conducted four hours later showed a blood alcohol content of 0.15% and the presence of cocaine.

Calling Singh’s actions “selfish and callous,” DA Donnelly urged tougher penalties for impaired drivers who cause fatal crashes, emphasizing the devastation brought to the victims’ families.
