NEWARK, N.J. — Authorities are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who assaulted an Uber driver Saturday night after being told the ride would not go to Pennsylvania.
According to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr., the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. when the driver picked up four passengers—three men and one woman—at Lafayette and Monroe Streets.
Police said the suspect, a Black male about 5 feet 9 inches tall, was sitting in the front seat when he became upset after learning the driver could not take them to Easton, Pennsylvania. He then punched the driver several times in the face before all four passengers fled northbound on Monroe Street.
The suspect was last seen wearing a blue and white jacket with blue pants. Authorities have released a photo and are urging anyone with information to contact police.
