NEWARK, Del. — A Wilmington man was arrested Thursday after leading Delaware State Police on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle before fleeing on foot and being apprehended near a Newark credit union.

Authorities said the incident began around 3:45 p.m. when a trooper patrolling the area of a Wawa on Pulaski Highway spotted a blue Saturn Vue with an equipment violation. A check of the vehicle’s registration revealed that the tag was assigned to a different car.

When the trooper attempted a traffic stop, the driver, later identified as 42-year-old George Brown, sped off eastbound on Pulaski Highway, driving recklessly before stopping in the Community Powered Federal Credit Union’s parking lot. Brown then abandoned the vehicle and attempted to escape on foot through a nearby tree line, but troopers caught and arrested him after a brief chase.

A further investigation confirmed that the Saturn had been reported stolen in Wilmington on January 24. Brown was taken to Troop 2, where he was charged with multiple offenses, arraigned, and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $5,002 cash bond.
