PIKESVILLE, MD – A Maryland man was found guilty of attempted murder and weapons charges following a road rage shooting on Interstate 95 in Howard County, an incident state police officials say could have ended in a fatality.
Quwan Lamar Gordon was convicted Wednesday in the Circuit Court for Howard County on charges including attempted murder and first-degree assault. The verdict followed a three-day jury trial. Gordon remains in custody at the Baltimore County Detention Center on separate narcotics and firearms charges. A sentencing date will be scheduled following a pre-sentence investigation.
“The hard work, dedication, and persistence demonstrated by investigators of the Maryland State Police went beyond the initial on-scene investigation and were key in securing a conviction,” Maryland State Police Superintendent Colonel Roland L. Butler, Jr. said.
The case stemmed from an August 12, 2024, shooting on I-95, where a witness reported seeing a motorist in a white Volkswagen fire at another vehicle during a dispute. The victim was not injured. State police investigators identified Gordon as the suspect and executed a search warrant at his Owings Mills home, where they recovered suspected MDMA, fentanyl, and a loaded handgun.
Further investigation connected Gordon to the shooting, leading to additional charges on August 23. Howard County State’s Attorney Rich Gibson emphasized the growing concern over road rage incidents involving firearms, stating, “This is a deep concern for the prosecutors of the state and the community at large.”
