HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. — A pedestrian was fatally struck Wednesday morning when a vehicle veered off Route 46 and onto the sidewalk in front of a CVS Pharmacy, authorities said.

Hackettstown police and emergency responders arrived at 85 Main Street at approximately 10:52 a.m. following reports of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle. A preliminary investigation found that a 2018 GMC Canyon, driven by a 61-year-old man from Flanders, N.J., was traveling westbound when it left the roadway and struck the pedestrian.

The victim was transported to Hackettstown Medical Center, where they were later pronounced dead, police said. Authorities have not released the victim’s identity, pending notification of next of kin.

The driver was also taken to Hackettstown Medical Center for a medical evaluation. Officials have not stated whether any charges have been filed.

Route 46 was closed between West Stiger Street and Valentine Street as police investigated the crash, which remains under investigation.
