FREDERICK, MD — Amid growing concerns about immigration enforcement, the Frederick Police Department has issued a statement to reassure residents that its priority remains the safety and well-being of all community members, regardless of immigration status.

In a message shared on social media and Facebook, the department clarified that it does not engage in immigration enforcement, a responsibility that rests solely with federal agencies like U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Police emphasized they do not inquire about immigration status during traffic stops or service calls, nor do they assist ICE in enforcement actions.

“We hear your concerns and want to reassure you that our priority is, and always has been, your safety and well-being,” the statement read.

The department addressed rumors of immigration enforcement actions occurring in schools and other community spaces, stating that no such actions have taken place in Frederick. Officials urged residents to rely on official police communication channels for accurate information.

Through the Multi-Cultural Liaison Unit, the Frederick Police Department works closely with the city’s diverse communities, providing culturally sensitive resources and fostering trust. The department also highlighted its partnerships through programs like School Resource Officers and its Crisis Response Team to meet the needs of all residents.

“Frederick is a city that celebrates and respects every individual,” the department said, emphasizing its commitment to building an inclusive and safe environment.
