WASHINGTON — The U.S. Marine Corps has deployed personnel to the southern border to provide logistical and operational support to Customs and Border Protection (CBP), according to an announcement made by the White House on Friday.
In the video Marines were seen with trucks loaded with concertina wire and tools to build defensive and protective fencing.
The move comes as part of ongoing federal efforts to address border security challenges, with CBP reporting a sustained increase in encounters at various points along the U.S.-Mexico border. The Marines will reportedly assist in non-enforcement roles, such as surveillance and infrastructure support, according to officials.
In a tweet Friday morning, the White House stated, “The US Marine Corps is on the border assisting CBP with the mission to secure America.” No further details were provided on the duration or scale of the deployment.
This deployment follows similar efforts involving other military personnel under the Defense Department’s direction, who have been called upon in recent years to bolster CBP’s capacity for handling logistical demands at the border.
