Man charged with fatally stabbing mother at Massapequa apartment on Christmas Eve

MINEOLA, NY — A 27-year-old man has been indicted on murder and weapons charges after allegedly stabbing his mother to death in her Massapequa apartment on Christmas Eve, according to the Nassau County District Attorney’s office.

Jeremy Emmanuel Lopez Ramirez was arraigned Monday before Judge Robert McDonald on charges of second-degree murder, an A-I felony, and two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a D felony. Lopez Ramirez pleaded not guilty and was remanded. He is scheduled to appear in court on February 19. If convicted, he faces up to 32 years to life in prison.

Prosecutors allege that on December 24, 2024, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Lopez Ramirez fatally attacked his mother, 57-year-old Josefina Ramirez Montero, in her upstairs apartment at 5714 Old Sunrise Highway. After returning from a laundromat, Lopez Ramirez allegedly stabbed his mother four times with a six-inch knife, including a fatal wound to the heart, before attempting to bury the weapon outside the building.

Ramirez Montero was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

“The holiday season is a time for families to come together, but this defendant’s alleged actions tore his family apart,” said Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly in a statement. “A grief-stricken family was left to mourn the senseless and tragic loss of their mother.”

The case is being prosecuted by the Nassau County District Attorney’s Homicide Bureau. The defendant is represented by Nicole Guliano, Esq.
