Newark police seek public’s help in identifying robbery suspects

NEWARK, N.J. — Authorities are asking for assistance in identifying two suspects involved in a robbery that occurred on Wednesday, January 15, in the 500 block of North 6th Street, according to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr.

Police said a male victim was followed into an apartment building by two Hispanic men, one of whom placed the victim in a chokehold while the other removed his wallet. The suspects then fled northbound on North 6th Street.

The stolen wallet contained the victim’s ID, two bank cards, and $200 in cash, police said.

Detectives described the first suspect as 5’9”-5’11” tall with a thin build, a light complexion, and dressed in all-black clothing, including a ski mask, along with black and white Nike sneakers. The second suspect was described as 5’5”-5’7” tall, also with a thin build and light complexion. He was wearing all-black clothing, a ski mask, a green hoodie, and white New Balance sneakers.
