MINEOLA, N.Y. — A Freeport woman has been indicted for allegedly defrauding public assistance programs of more than $130,000 and committing insurance fraud by falsifying her residence to avoid higher premiums, Nassau County prosecutors announced.

Angelique White, 32, was arraigned Thursday before Judge Robert Pipia on multiple felony charges, including second-degree grand larceny, second-degree welfare fraud, third-degree grand larceny, third-degree welfare fraud, and third-degree insurance fraud. White pleaded not guilty and was released on her own recognizance. She is scheduled to return to court on January 16, 2025. If convicted, she faces up to 15 years in prison.

Between 2017 and 2021, White allegedly collected $39,771 in childcare benefits and $92,730 in Medicaid benefits by failing to disclose her employment income from the U.S. Postal Service and Northwell Health, as well as rental income from two properties she co-owned in Elmont and Freeport.

“Over the course of several years, this defendant allegedly defrauded public assistance programs of more than $130,000 while she pocketed thousands of dollars in rental payments and salaries from multiple jobs,” Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly said in a statement.

In a separate scheme, White is accused of submitting false documents to Geico, claiming she lived in Oswego, New York, to avoid higher insurance premiums. Prosecutors allege she provided fraudulent utility bills, paystubs, and phone bills to support her claim. As a result, she underpaid over $11,000 in car insurance premiums.

White surrendered to authorities on January 9, 2025, following an investigation by the Nassau County Department of Social Services.
