ALBEMARLE COUNTY, VA — The Albemarle County Police Department (ACPD) has confirmed that the dog at the center of a widely circulated animal cruelty video is alive and in good health following a veterinary examination.
On Friday, the Animal Protection Unit (APU) transported the dog to a licensed veterinarian for a full physical assessment, which revealed no significant or life-threatening injuries.
After further discussions, the dog’s owner voluntarily surrendered the animal to the APU. Authorities confirmed that criminal charges in connection with the incident are pending a court appearance.
Police stated that the investigation remains active, with officers gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and consulting animal welfare experts to ensure a thorough review of the case.
“We understand the emotional impact this video has had on our community and want to assure the public that we are committed to holding individuals accountable for any violations of the law,” ACPD said in a statement.
The department has urged the public to avoid making online threats or engaging in behavior that could disrupt the ongoing investigation.
