ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. — The Albemarle County Police Department has launched an investigation into a reported act of animal cruelty involving a dog after a video of the incident began circulating online.

Authorities confirmed they are actively working to determine the facts surrounding the incident and have assured the public that the matter is being taken seriously.

“Our team is following established protocols to ensure a thorough and fair process,” the department stated, noting that investigators are collecting evidence, interviewing witnesses, and consulting with animal welfare experts.

Police acknowledged the emotional response from the community and urged the public to avoid making online threats or taking actions that could disrupt the investigation.

“These behaviors not only hinder the investigative process but can escalate tensions, create safety risks for all involved, and can potentially lead to legal consequences,” officials said.

Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, police have not released further details but reaffirmed their commitment to holding individuals accountable for any violations of the law.
