BRIGHTON, UK — Former Labour MP Ivor Caplin has been arrested following a sting operation conducted by a group of civilian investigators targeting alleged child predators.
Caplin, 65, is accused of attempting to arrange a meeting with a person he believed to be a 15-year-old boy, according to reports. The arrest took place after a coordinated operation by so-called “pedophile hunters,” though official details from law enforcement have not yet been released.
The former Hove MP has recently been in the public eye after criticizing tech billionaire Elon Musk for comments directed at Labour leader Keir Starmer and MP Jess Phillips. Speaking on British television last week, Caplin described Musk’s remarks as “completely and utterly unfound” and labeled them “unacceptable.”
Caplin served as a Labour Member of Parliament for Hove from 1997 until 2005 and later held a role as a junior defense minister.
Police have not issued an official statement regarding the charges, and further details about the investigation remain under review.
