NEW YORK — Dr. Emmanuel “Manny” Hostin, the longtime husband of The View co-host Sunny Hostin, is facing allegations of insurance fraud in what federal prosecutors are calling one of the largest RICO cases ever filed in New York. The lawsuit, filed on December 17, names Hostin among nearly 200 defendants accused of engaging in a scheme to defraud an insurance company that serves taxi companies and rideshare drivers.

Hostin, an orthopedic surgeon, is alleged to have received kickbacks in exchange for performing surgeries and fraudulently billing American Transit Insurance Company, according to court documents. The lawsuit claims Hostin “knowingly provided fraudulent medical and other healthcare services including arthroscopic surgeries” and billed the insurance company under false pretenses. Payments for the services were allegedly funneled back to the defendants “disguised as dividends or other cash distributions.”

The case targets dozens of doctors, lawyers, and medical clinics in what prosecutors describe as an extensive scheme to exploit New York’s no-fault auto insurance system. American Transit, the plaintiff in the case, says it has suffered significant financial losses due to the alleged fraud.

Hostin’s attorney, Daniel Thwaites, strongly denied the allegations, telling DailyMail.com that his client “denies each and every allegation” and called the lawsuit a “blanket, scattershot, meritless lawsuit by a near-bankrupt insurance carrier.”

The lawsuit has cast a shadow over Dr. Hostin’s career and raised questions about his future, even as he continues to deny wrongdoing. His wife, Sunny Hostin, has not commented publicly on the accusations.
