Baltimore Mayor Says City More Equitable Under His First Term in Office

BALTIMORE — Mayor Brandon M. Scott released a comprehensive first-term accomplishment report on Tuesday, titled “Building Baltimore’s Future Together,” which outlines significant progress made during his administration in public safety, youth investment, community health, neighborhood development, and responsible governance over the past four years.

The report highlights key achievements, including a 22.4% reduction in homicides and a 34.6% reduction in nonfatal shootings in 2024 through the implementation of community-based violence reduction strategies and police reform. Mayor Scott emphasized the importance of addressing crime at its roots, describing the approach as building “a safer, more just city for all.”

Youth investment was another focal point, with expanded educational opportunities, job programs, and mentorship initiatives. The administration prioritized creating spaces and programs that empower young Baltimoreans and set the foundation for the city’s long-term success.

Efforts to enhance Baltimore’s environment and community health included expanded sanitation services, increased access to green spaces, and initiatives aimed at addressing public health disparities. These actions, Scott noted, aim to create “healthier communities where everyone can flourish.”

The report also emphasized equitable neighborhood development, detailing efforts to revitalize vacant properties, expand affordable housing, and foster inclusive economic growth. Mayor Scott underscored the commitment to ensuring resources are distributed equitably across all neighborhoods, not just downtown.

The administration also highlighted responsible fiscal stewardship, including transparency initiatives and disciplined resource management, as key to improving government efficiency and accountability to residents.

The report reflects on challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse, noting the city’s resilience in mobilizing resources and forging partnerships to address crises.
