Maryland caregiver wins $48K Keno jackpot following a hunch

PRINCE FREDERICK, MD — A Southern Maryland caregiver turned a tip from a long-time friend and a suggestion from her mother into a $48,108 Keno prize, Maryland Lottery officials announced.

The Charles County resident, who rarely buys lottery tickets, traveled to the Bridge Drive Inn on Hallowing Point Road in Prince Frederick after her friend told her the store felt lucky. Unsure of what numbers to play, she relied on her mother’s advice to use family birthdays.

Her winning ticket was a 10-spot, 20-draw Keno game, and the good news came later when her mother breathlessly called to confirm the prize amount. The winner said she could hardly believe the size of her windfall when she found out.

The Bridge Drive Inn will receive a $481.08 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

The winner shared that while she is thrilled, her friend, who inspired the purchase, might be the most excited of all about the win.
