PRINCE FREDERICK, MD — A Southern Maryland caregiver turned advice from two trusted sources into a life-changing $48,108 Keno win after following a hunch to play the lottery at a specific retailer and using family birthdays as her numbers.

The Charles County resident, who rarely buys lottery tickets, said the journey began when a longtime friend she cares for mentioned having a “lucky feeling” about playing Keno at the Bridge Drive Inn, a liquor store located at 6654 Hallowing Point Road in Calvert County. Trusting her friend’s intuition, the caregiver made the trip to the store, despite the distance.

When faced with choosing numbers, she turned to her mother, who suggested playing family birthdays, a decision tied to their strong familial bond. The caregiver purchased a 10-spot, 20-draw Keno ticket and sent her mother a photo of the ticket to check the results.

“I thought something terrible had happened when she called me out of breath,” the winner said. Instead, her mother delivered the surprising news: the ticket had won $48,108.

The owners of the Bridge Drive Inn will also celebrate, receiving a $481.08 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the winning ticket.

Reflecting on the win, the caregiver said her friend, whose initial lucky feeling led to the adventure, was perhaps the most thrilled of all: “You should have seen my friend’s face when I told her.”
