Trump hints at secrecy over drones near New Jersey nuclear plants, raises public concern

BEDMINSTER, N.J. — Former President Donald Trump suggested this week that federal authorities and the U.S. military may be withholding information about recent drone activity near critical infrastructure in New Jersey, including the Salem and Hope Creek nuclear power plants.

In a recent interview, Trump claimed officials are aware of the drones’ origins and flight paths but have chosen not to share details. “Our military knows where they took off from,” he said. “They know where it came from and where it went, and for some reason, they don’t want to comment.”

The remarks follow reports of unauthorized drone sightings over sensitive sites, prompting concerns about security risks. Earlier this week, PSE&G, operator of the Salem and Hope Creek nuclear facilities in Salem County, confirmed it had notified authorities after drones were observed flying above the plants. A company spokesperson emphasized that “the safety and security of our employees, customers, and communities are our top priority.”

Today, Biden-Administration Josh Kirby confirmed that the government does know what is happening, but Kirby didn’t explain what was happening.

Trump speculated that the drone activity is unlikely to involve foreign adversaries, stating, “I can’t imagine it’s the enemy, because if it was the enemy, they’d blast it out.”

He also cited drone sightings near his Bedminster property, suggesting the incidents were close enough to influence his travel plans. “I’ve decided to cancel my trip,” he added.

Federal agencies have not issued public statements addressing the sightings, nor have they disclosed any findings regarding the drones’ intent or origin. Under federal law, unauthorized flights over critical infrastructure are prohibited.

The absence of official information has fueled speculation and public unease, with Trump’s comments amplifying concerns about potential secrecy surrounding the incidents.

The drone activity near nuclear plants and sensitive areas remains unresolved, as questions persist over whether the sightings pose a broader security threat.
