New Jersey Tuesday Morning Traffic Report: Commute Chaos Edition
Good morning, New Jersey! If you’re on the roads today, let’s just say you’re going to need a little extra patience—and maybe an extra coffee. Watermain breaks, crashes, downed poles… it’s like the traffic gods hit “shuffle” on the chaos playlist today.
Cherry Hill Township is having a rough morning with two big incidents. A watermain break on NJ 38 eastbound near Coles Avenue has closed the right shoulder, so tread carefully. Not far off on I-295 southbound, a crash near Exit 34 for NJ 70 has the right shoulder blocked, causing 10-15 minute delays.
If you’re traveling through Union Township, forget about NJ 82 for now. A watermain break there has all lanes closed west of US 22. You’ll need to find a workaround.
The Outerbridge Crossing is also feeling the heat. A crash on the eastbound side in Perth Amboy has the left lane blocked, so prepare for a slow crawl into Staten Island. And if you’re headed southbound on NJ 440 near Bayonne, a downed pole has taken out the right lane.
Florence Township drivers have an even bigger headache. A crash and a utility pole down on US 130 northbound at Florence-Columbus Road has all lanes closed. Detours are in place, so follow signs and try to keep the road rage in check.
It doesn’t get better in Keyport, where NJ 36 is an absolute no-go thanks to a crash involving downed poles and wires. Both directions are closed and detoured, so plan ahead or stay far away from the Atlantic Street area.
Meanwhile, Mount Arlington commuters, brace yourselves: an overturned tractor-trailer is still blocking the I-80 westbound ramp from Exit 30, and the right lane on I-80 itself is also closed. The delays are stacking up fast.
Oh, and as if that’s not enough, the Garden State Parkway is practically gridlocked in several spots. Northbound delays stretch from Colonia to East Orange, with a massive 12-mile delay reported. Southbound traffic isn’t faring much better, especially around Paramus and Saddle Brook.
Bridges and tunnels are feeling the usual weekday blues. The George Washington Bridge is serving up 45-minute delays on both the upper and lower levels eastbound. The Lincoln Tunnel isn’t far behind, with center and south tunnels clocking in at 40 minutes eastbound. Over on the Outerbridge Crossing to Staten Island, travel times are pushing 20 minutes on Route 440.
And let’s not forget rubbernecking delays, which are clogging up I-80 eastbound near Mount Arlington. Even the less-traveled NJ 4 and NJ 15 are feeling it this morning, proving that no road is safe from New Jersey’s traffic gremlins.
If you’re stuck in all of this, you’re not alone. Take a deep breath, crank up your favorite playlist, and remember—it’s just another Tuesday in the Garden State. Stay safe out there!
