BRONX, N.Y. — A 57-year-old man who sustained spinal injuries at the 170th Street subway station in July has died from his injuries, the NYPD confirmed Saturday.
Police responded to the incident on July 17 at approximately 1:20 p.m. at the station within the confines of the 44th Precinct and Transit District #11. Officers found the man conscious but with severe spinal injuries. Emergency medical personnel transported him to BronxCare Health System for treatment.
The man remained hospitalized for months but succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, December 14, police said. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the official cause of death.
Authorities have not disclosed the circumstances that led to the man’s injuries, and no arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing, with detectives working to establish what occurred at the station.
The NYPD has withheld the identity of the deceased pending notification of his family.
