GAITHERSBURG, Md. — A Gaithersburg resident claimed a $30,000 Keno prize on Dec. 2, with her son enthusiastically celebrating the win while she preferred to keep a low profile.

The Montgomery County winner, who typically favors scratch-off tickets, decided to try her luck with Keno and relied on her family for help selecting numbers. She purchased her winning 8-spot ticket with the Bonus feature for six drawings at a Shell gas station on All Saints Road in Laurel, Howard County.

The family, longtime fans of Maryland Lottery games, considers playing a cherished tradition, exchanging tickets as gifts for birthdays and holidays. The mother’s winning numbers were 18, 28, 29, 38, 48, 58, 59, and 78, earning the gas station a $300 bonus for selling a winning ticket of $10,000 or more.

The winner plans to use her prize money to make home improvements, while her son hinted at future wins for the family, saying he hopes to return with an even bigger prize.

The win comes as the Maryland Lottery runs its Keno Sprinkler promotion, offering players a chance to double or triple their winnings through Dec. 29.
