Pedestrian killed in crash on North Dupont Highway in New Castle

NEW CASTLE, Del.Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a pedestrian late Saturday night on North Dupont Highway.

The incident occurred on December 7 at approximately 11:16 p.m. when a Toyota Tacoma traveling southbound in the right lane struck a 44-year-old man who had entered the roadway north of Christiana Road. Police stated that the pedestrian, who was wearing dark clothing, stepped into the truck’s path of travel.

The man, a New Castle resident, was transported to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Authorities have not released his name, pending notification of his family.

The driver of the Tacoma, a 38-year-old man from Smyrna, was not injured in the collision. The southbound lanes of North Dupont Highway were closed for approximately two hours as police investigated and cleared the scene.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and no charges have been filed at this time.
