Montgomery County, Md. — Police have arrested two drivers involved in an April crash that resulted in the death of 52-year-old Ron Franzese, who was struck twice while walking along Randolph Road.
The incident occurred on April 5, at around 10:15 p.m., when 71-year-old Thanh Phan drove her vehicle onto the sidewalk near Kimblewick Drive, hitting Franzese. The impact caused Franzese to fall into the road, where he was struck a second time by a vehicle driven by 27-year-old Jose Saravia Gonzalez.
According to the Montgomery County Department of Police, Saravia Gonzalez left the scene without rendering aid. Phan’s vehicle reentered the roadway after the initial collision, crossing three lanes before crashing into a tree. Police have not determined why Phan initially left the roadway.
Phan was arrested on November 25 and charged with criminally negligent manslaughter by vehicle. Saravia Gonzalez was taken into custody on December 2 and faces the same charge.
