Man arrested for October assault on 75-year-old aboard MTA bus in East Harlem

MANHATTAN, N.Y. — A 39-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the October 2 assault of a 75-year-old man aboard an M102 bus in East Harlem, police confirmed.

The suspect, identified as Christopher J. Royster, of 1115 1st Avenue, was taken into custody on Friday, November 29, 2024, at 12:35 p.m., within the confines of the NYPD’s 19th Precinct. He is charged with second-degree assault.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. near Lexington Avenue and East 96th Street, where Royster allegedly punched the elderly victim multiple times in the head. The suspect fled the scene on foot, leaving the victim with head lacerations. The victim later sought treatment at a local hospital.
