Morning crashes and delays snarl New Jersey roadways

NEW JERSEY — A series of crashes and heavy traffic caused significant disruptions across New Jersey roadways during the morning commute, affecting major highways and bridges.

On US 1 northbound in Edison Township, a crash north of Woodbridge Avenue closed one left lane as of 8:06 a.m. In Maple Shade Township, a crash on NJ 73 northbound near CR 537/Main Street closed one left lane, leading to 5-10 minute delays. Meanwhile, US 22 westbound in Mountainside had a crash west of CR 643/Summit Road with one right lane closed.

In Fort Lee, a crash on the George Washington Bridge upper level westbound mid-span blocked three left lanes as of 7:56 a.m., while delays on the bridge’s lower level eastbound resulted in 25-minute travel times, and upper level eastbound delays extended travel times to 40 minutes.

Elsewhere, delays were reported on the Garden State Parkway southbound near Exit 137 in Cranford Township due to a crash blocking one right lane. Significant traffic was also seen at the Lincoln Tunnel, where travel times from the New Jersey Turnpike Exit 16E to New York reached 20 minutes for both the south and center tunnels.

Motorists were advised to expect additional delays across I-295, the New Jersey Turnpike, and other key routes due to heavy congestion and sun glare.
