PALM BEACH, Fla. — Former President Donald Trump issued a fiery response on social media after federal prosecutors dropped several high-profile criminal cases against him, decrying the investigations as politically motivated and an unprecedented misuse of taxpayer dollars.
“These cases, like all of the other cases I have been forced to go through, are empty and lawless, and should never have been brought,” Trump wrote on his social media platform and Facebook. He alleged that more than $100 million in taxpayer funds had been spent on what he called partisan efforts by Democrats to target him, referring to the investigations as a “low point in the history of our country.”
Trump also criticized state prosecutors and attorneys involved in separate cases against him, singling out Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, New York Attorney General Letitia James, and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. He accused them of pursuing politically driven cases and claimed some, including Willis, had profited financially.
Trump characterized the dropped federal cases as a victory and reiterated his long-standing claim that the investigations were an attempt to undermine him as a political opponent.
The announcement by federal prosecutors to drop certain cases follows months of legal battles involving the former president, who is also a leading contender for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.
Trump called the dropped charges a vindication, accusing prosecutors of waging a political crusade against him.
