NEWARK, N.J. — Authorities are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a man captured on surveillance video firing a gun into the air on October 21, according to the Newark Department of Public Safety.
The shooting occurred around 6:45 p.m. in the 30 block of Arsdale Place, police said. A single gunshot was detected by the city’s shot spotter system, prompting officers to respond to the area. Upon arrival, police recovered a spent shell casing but found no injuries or property damage.
The suspect, described as a Black man, was last seen heading eastbound on Arsdale Place before turning northbound onto Grand Street. He was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, a matching blue hat, and dark-colored pants, according to authorities.
Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr. has urged residents to assist in identifying the individual. “Anyone with information is asked to call the Newark Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line,” the department stated. Anonymous tips could be eligible for a reward.
