Teen Charged in Columbus Murder, Two More Sought

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 17-year-old has been charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man on the city’s West Side earlier this month, according to the Columbus Division of Police.

Officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Demorest Road on Nov. 3 at 3:19 p.m. after receiving a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found Gene Sutton, 19, suffering from a gunshot wound. Sutton was transported to Grant Medical Center in critical condition but was pronounced dead shortly afterward at 3:47 p.m.

Police arrested Markel Dickerson-Turner, 17, on Nov. 9, charging him with murder in connection to Sutton’s death. Authorities credited assistance from the public in helping to identify and locate Dickerson-Turner. The circumstances surrounding the shooting, including any possible motives, have not yet been disclosed.

However, police continue to seek information about two additional suspects involved in the incident. Detectives are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.
