WASHINGTON, D.C. — A man has been arrested in connection with a Southeast Washington, D.C., shooting that left a teenager and an adult hospitalized with gunshot wounds, police said Tuesday.

The incident took place on Friday, November 8, when gunfire broke out around 11:05 a.m. in the 3000 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE, according to investigators. Officers from the Seventh District initially responded to a report of a shooting on the 600 block of Mellon Street SE, where they found a teenage male suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot injuries.

Soon after, an adult male arrived at a local hospital with gunshot wounds that detectives later linked to the same shooting. Authorities believe both victims were injured during the same incident on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE.

Following an investigation, police identified a suspect and circulated a lookout to officers in the area. On Tuesday, November 12, officers apprehended 20-year-old Bernard Matthews of Southeast Washington, D.C.

Matthews has been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, carrying a pistol without a license, possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device, and receiving stolen property, according to MPD.
