Additionally, delays in the vicinity extended north of Interchange 12 in Carteret, creating a 3.5-mile backup.
Just one minute earlier, at 8:26 a.m., an accident on I-78 westbound express lanes east of Exit 52 at the Garden State Parkway in Hillside Township blocked one left lane. This added to already heavy traffic conditions in the area.

Elsewhere, congestion continued on the Garden State Parkway, the New Jersey Turnpike, and I-280, adding significant travel time for commuters. The Garden State Parkway southbound from Paramus to Saddle Brook Township saw 2.5-mile delays due to volume, while a substantial 8.5-mile delay was recorded southbound from East Orange to Kenilworth.
New Jersey Transit has advised drivers to exercise caution and anticipate extended travel times due to the high volume of traffic and various incidents throughout the morning commute.
