NEW YORK — A 32-year-old Bronx woman was arrested in connection with an attempted kidnapping that occurred earlier this week in the East Tremont neighborhood, police said. Darlyn Thomas, of 988 East 180th Street, was charged with attempted kidnapping in the second degree.
The incident took place on Tuesday at around 6:50 p.m. inside a laundry room at Thomas’s residential building, according to the New York City Police Department. Authorities reported that an unidentified individual followed a 23-year-old woman and her 2-year-old child into the laundry room before grabbing the victim’s arm and demanding the child.
The mother was able to break free, and both she and the child were unharmed. The suspect fled the scene, using the elevator to exit on the 12th floor, police said.
Following the incident, the NYPD sought public assistance in locating the suspect, which led to Thomas’s arrest. No injuries were reported, and the investigation is ongoing.
