Stafford, VA** – An elderly man in Stafford was extracted from his SUV on Friday night following an accident caused by driving under the influence. The incident occurred on the 1900 block of Mountain View Road at approximately 9:28 p.m.
Deputy S. Waheed responded immediately after receiving reports of a flipped SUV with the driver still inside. Upon arrival, bystanders confirmed this information, prompting Deputy Waheed to use a glass breaker to enter the vehicle. He then assessed the driver while awaiting further assistance from Fire and Rescue personnel due to the risk of spinal injury. Open beer containers were observed inside the vehicle.
Once extracted, signs of intoxication were evident in the 82-year-old driver, who admitted to drinking two beers before driving. He was transported to a hospital to treat injuries from the crash. As a result of his condition and the DUI suspicions, he was issued a summons while remaining in the hospital for further care.
